News and Upcoming Events

May, 2008

I would like to ask you to take a moment to consider an extremely important issue.

The news is filled with coverage of the chronic "food crisis" in many overseas countries. Thankfully, developed countries such as Canada provide significant financial aid to help alleviate these situations.  Rarely do we see references to chronic local food shortages.  Everyday, right on our door-steps, there are families that are forced to choose between paying rent, electricity, clothing, and even, food!

I would like to ask you to participate in West Island Mission's  “2nd Annual Golf Tournament” which will be held on Friday, September 12, 2008, 1:00pm at the Saint-Raphaël Golf Club (www.golfstraphael.ca) in Île-Bizard. Registration begins at 12:00pm.   Please take a moment to print our brochure Golf Brochure I, Golf Brochure II and also the registration form Registration Form and return it by mail by July 31st.  Golf Poster

Established in February 2005, West Island Mission provides food assistance and other related aid to the less fortunate living in the West Island of Montreal. This dedicated group's mission and purpose is to seek out and make a difference in the lives of people who struggle with poverty in the West Island of Montreal and to see peoples' suffering and despair replaced by joy and hope.

West Island Mission currently assists over 400 homes in the West Island. This includes a total of 1452 people of which 50% are children under the age of 18.  West Island Mission provides Easter (Spring), Back-to-School, and Christmas food baskets, and also supply emergency food assistance when needed.   Care baskets consist of well-balanced, high quality food and other items such as toiletries, school supplies and new or gently used children’s clothing for Back-to-School and presents for the children at Christmas.

We  know that this tournament will be very enjoyable, while creating awareness of the problems with poverty that exist on the West Island. The ultimate goal is to raise much needed funds to help West Island Mission to continue to better serve food bank recipients. The continued success of this cause depends on the support of people like you. Every contribution counts.  You can make a difference!

All cheques for sponsorship(s) and/or registration(s) should be made payable to West Island Mission.

Lastly, if you are able, we need your help in supplying our golfers, with door prizes and/or silent auction items.  Anything that you can donate will help out tremendously .

As a registered non-profit organization, income tax receipts (less value received) will be issued to individuals / corporate donors provided payment is received directly from them.

Should you have any questions or need more information, please contact Eric Tetreault, Founder & General Manager, by phone at (514) 912-6813 or by email at erictetreault@videotron.ca  as soon as possible.

Best personal regards,

Thomas M. Kattas
